In a somewhat bold move on both parts,
Caroline Wozniacki will not play the Middle East swing after the
Australian Open and will only play at Indian Wells and Miami as her comeback continues into 2024.
Wozniacki has decided against playing in both Doha and Dubai in February as per her father Piotr Wozniacki who has also been her long time coach. Since returning, the status of her coaching has also been semi a mystery but her father has also said that while he is still on board, she takes most of the coaching herself.
This is a bold move in skipping tournaments for a number of reasons. She will hope to improve her ranking during this season to stop having to rely on wildcards and also she will want to play in the Olympic Games which her father has stated is one of her main goals. It seems to be across the board though with Wozniacki deciding against playing a lot during 2024.
"We can of course discuss back and forth whether it is good or bad. But Caroline has made a decision that she will not play as many tournaments this year," said her father Piotr to Ekstra Bladet.
"She knows what she has to do this year, and she has set very specific goals. She has a goal of playing in the four Grand Slams and the Olympics. And her goals are the most important."
"Today she is not just a tennis player mentally and in terms of experience. She is also a kind of coach for herself. I support her of course. I analyze her game, look at statistics and analyze her opponents."
"But she knows best what to do and what is good for her. She knows how long she has to train and what things she has to focus on. She has almost become a team in herself."
