No sweat for @cocogauff 💪 The No.6 seed cruises past Grabher 6-2, 6-2 and into the third round. #RolandGarros
Coco Gauff stood in the Roland Garros final last year and she made a step closer to doing it again by beating Grabher in two sets 6-2 6-3.
The American didn't have a great round one match facing some issues but she did manage to come back and win it. This one was really straightforward as she didn't really face any issues. Having played Grabher a few months ago in the Billie Jean King Cup allowed her to prepare rather well for this one.
It was evident from the start that Gauff knew exactly what to do in order to beat her and she took an early lead which she never gave back. She could have ended it at 5-1 on her serve but got broken to finish things off 6-2. Gauff is prone to those drops in focus at times so that wasn't particularly unusual.
The best thing about her is taht she's generally able to snap out of it quickly and that's what she did.
The second set featured a shaky start by Gauff as she dropped her serve once more but again snapped back rather quickly breaking her opponent again. She would drop her serve once more and then again break back to make it 2-2. From there it was a rather solid cruise toward a 5-2 lead which became a 6-3 finish.
Gauff played fairly well for much of the match pushing Grabher towards risking far more than she usually does. You kind of have against Gauff because she's so quick around the court that you need to overhit most of the time to have a chance to finish off points. She tried that but failed as she only had 9 winners and 27 unforced errors. A 1-3 ratio is not good enough.
