American tennis prodigy Coco Gauff recently made headlines after a $100,000 donation to UNICEF to aid HBCU students playing tennis, a gesture that saw her receive commendation from many in the tennis community, including former doubles World No.1 Rennae Stubbs.

HBCU stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and it encompasses schools of higher education that primarily serve African Americans. Several of these schools were created before the 1964 Civil Rights Act, giving African Americans an opportunity to further their education during segregation.

The 20-year old made a $100,000 donation to UNICEF in support of HBCU students playing tennis, with her selfless act earning her praise from Stubbs, who previously coached WTA legend Serena Williams. The retired doubles expert took to her Instagram stories to post the news, adding clapping hands emoji to show her support.

Stubbs has been vocal on the issue of racism faced by minorities in tennis, and has chimed in on the racial abuse incident at Indian Wells involving Venus Williams and sister Serena several years ago.

What they went through early on in their careers was pretty traumatic in some ways," said Stubbs on the Off The Ball podcast. You know, they weren't accepted by the tennis establishment, there was a lot of pushback on them. There was basic racism in tennis."
