Despite
being only 18 years old,
Coco Gauff has been a part of the professional tennis
scene for several years and has garnered attention from tennis fans and various
brands since a young age.
She became a New Balance ambassador at the age of 14 and recently signed a new shoe deal with the company in 2022. In this
context, the current world No. 6 has launched a new edition of sneakers
inspired by "pineapples, roses, and dragonflies". Gauff shared that
the Colorway Cam Bams CG 1 Kids edition was initiated with drawings created by
her 9-year-old younger brother, Cameron, who was gifted a book on "How to
Make a Sneaker" by a New Balance designer that inspired him to create the
initial designs.
Gauff explained to the
magazine about the excitement her brother felt for being a part of the sneaker
creation process: "He was really excited. I think he kind of sensed [what
would happen] in a way because they asked him to draw on this shoe and then for
the paper, so he's young, but he kind of put two and two together," the
American said.
“"I asked him about
that and he said it was, 'Just what I was feeling,'" she added.
"I think that's just
like what's fun about being a kid in general. As you get older, you tend to
overthink things. But I feel like kids really trust their first instinct and that's
kind of what he did. He just said he just thought the colors look cool
together."
The
18-year-old tennis player will play this week at the BNP Paribas Open Indian
Wells and will make her debut in the second round against a qualifier.
