Coco Gauff continued playing well on grass in Berlin taking down Karolina Pliskova in straight sets 7-5 6-4 to move to the semifinal.
Since her first match in Berlin, Gauff looked really sharp in Berlin. The American player played another strong match to outlast Karolina Pliskova who looked quite strong the entire week as well. After all the Czech Player played a really strong Wimbledon last year losing in the final to Barty. Pliskova started better than Gauff in this one taking an early 2-0 lead.
After that, Gauff was able to battle back and make it 2-2 with the players holding serve from there. Pliskova was a bit more solid but she wasted a huge chance at 5-4. Gauff was down 15-40 but she was able to secure a major hold saving four set points in the process.
Pliskova kind of fell apart a bit after that missing a few balls and giving Gauf the break. The American did not waste this chance and she snatched up the opening set 7-5. That hold was the defining moment of the opening set and quite possibly the entire match. Pliskova opened the 2nd set with another early break 2-0 but Gauff once again battled back.
A quiet part of the match followed with neither able to create any sort of chances on return. At 4-4, a bad game by Pliskova was all it took for Gauff to take the break and then close out the match. A huge win for Gauff who moves to the semifinal.
