Comeback continues for Elina Svitolina, fourth round at French Open beckons after Blinkova win

Elina Svitolina is into the Last 16 at Roland Garros for the fifth time, but as ever with the recent return after becoming a mother, this is perhaps her best of all.

Svitolina who was watched on by her husband Gael Monfils saw off Anna Blinkova coming from a set down to seal it 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Winning Strasbourg proved the catalyst for Svitolina on her return and now she has Daria Kasatkina next up.

Interestingly, There was booing for the non-handshake between a Ukrainian and a Russian as the crowd again made their feelings known after similar happened with Aryna Sabalenka and Marta Kostyuk.

Returning so soon was one for Svitolina where she had no expectations of returning to some of her best quickly.

“I came here without expectations. Coming back after giving birth is extremely complicated I would say (laughing) I’m really motivated to go farther…”
