Alejandro Davidovich Fokina troubled
Novak Djokovic quite a bit at
Roland Garros (French Open) but the Serbian navigated it well winning 7-6(4) 7-6(5) 6-2.
This was a pretty crazy match when it comes to how the momentum shifted often but one player remained more stable overall. Davidovich Fokina peaked far more frequently and higher than Djokovic but his general level wasn't as stable as that of Djokovic. The Serbian was very good most of the time and quite brilliant when he needed to be which was enough to get it done.
Fokina never gives up
One thing that you can say about Fokina is that he will always leave his all on the tennis court and this match once again showed that. Even when he seemed dead in the water, Fokina managed to rally back and make the match very interesting. In the first set, Fokina wore down Djokovic a few times in the opening set being up twice in the set.
Both times Djokovic managed to rally immediately and pull the score back with the tiebreak of the first set ending 7-4 in the favour of Djokovic. Fokina was once again up 3-1 in the tiebreak.
Djokovic's timely brilliance
The second set was another great one and once again it was Fokina who battled back more than once. Djokovic generally found his best tennis when he needed to. Fokina was up 2-0 in the second but Djokovic turned it around to 3-2. He served for the set at 5-4 but got broken with a brilliant game from the Spaniard but then again played brilliantly in the tiebreak.
He would close out the match in the final set with a more comfortable set taking an early break and this time around holding it comfortably for the 6-2 finish. A very tough test but a good one for Djokovic to pass.
