Iga Swiatek has been congratulated by the likes of
Billie Jean King and
Victoria Azarenka for her victory at the 2023
WTA Finals in Cancun.
The 22-year-old had a hugely successful run at the 2023 WTA Finals, defeating Marketa Vondrousova, Coco Gauff, and Ons Jabeur in the Group Stage before downing Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals without dropping a set.
Swiatek then faced Jessica Pegula in the final and won their clash 6-1, 6-0 to win the prestigious title. This also allowed the Polish player to re-gain World No. 1 in the WTA Ranking and to consolidate her place as year-end No. 1.
Swiatek praised by tennis legends past and present
39-time Grand Slam champion King was among the players praising Swiatek for her achievement on social media.
"Congratulations to @iga_swiatek, the #WTAFinals champion, on her 17th career singles title and 6th this season," the 79-year-old wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Meanwhile, former World No. 1 Azarenka also shared her admiration for the young star of the sport.
"Congratulations to @iga_swiatek for winning wta finals title! Great job," she wrote, followed by an applause emoji.
Ben Shelton was among those who commented on Swiatek's Instagram post celebrating her win, writing "Congrats".
Meanwhile, her compatriots
Hubert Hurkacz, Magda Linette, and Magdalena Frech also voiced their praise.
"Brawo @iga_swiatek," posted World No. 11 Hurkacz, while Linette and French both wished Swiatek "Huge Congratulations" in Polish ["Wielkie gratulacje"].
