Cornet reaches maiden Grand Slam Quarter-Final after defeating Halep at Australian Open

Simona Halep’s run at the Australian Open is over with Alize Cornet continuing her brilliance to reach the Quarter-Finals in Melbourne for her first Grand Slam latter stage appearance.

Cornet claimed it 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to break a winless streak in fourth-rounds at majors that dates back over a decade in the process.

Despite losing a set and a break up against Halep, with at one point losing 16 straight points, Cornet won three of the last four games to take the tie away from the former Grand Slam champion and surge through.

She will now play Danielle Collins in a wide open Quarter of the draw after the American saw off Elise Mertens 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 earlier in the evening session.
