Andy Roddick commented
on
Danielle Collins' excellent form after her second consecutive title and
compared her to
Andre Agassi. The former world No. 7 has been the standout
player on the WTA Tour in recent weeks with 13 consecutive victories and titles
at the WTA 1000
Miami Open and the WTA 500
Charleston Open.
'Danimal' has won 26 of
her last 27 sets since the opening match at the Miami Open against Bernarde
Pera. The 2022 Australian Open runner-up has stood out with excellent service
games and an increasingly aggressive return. 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick
compared Collins to the legend Andre Agassi for the changes she has shown in
her game: 'Do you remember a guy named Andre Agassi who would stand right up on
the baseline? Take your time away, take big swings,' he said.
'That’s what Collins
has been doing, the last couple of weeks, right? Not missing second serve
return, making first serves, the error count has come way down. It no longer
looks like a heart rate monitor. It’s pretty level, really impressive stuff
going from the hard to the clay.'

Furthermore, Roddick
mentioned that his family was glued to the television watching the great level
of his compatriot over the past few weeks: 'My in-laws, my kids Brooke, and
they’re asking about, you know, that as much as we talk about tennis, like they
don’t, they just don’t care as much as we do. Everyone was dialed in on the TV,
paying attention, getting into it, cheering for her story, asking questions,
wanting to know more. So I just feel like Danielle Collins kind of brought us
all into what she was feeling.'"
