Leylah Fernandez turned cheerleader for her younger sister Bianca in a non-conference
action.
The 21-year-old
turned cheerleader for her sister who was part of the UCLA Bruins winning
side against the Loyola Marymount University in the tennis contest.
Fernandez, in a
post on her official account on the social media platform X—previously known as
Twitter — stated that she is proud of her young sister. "Good win for
UCLA! And Bianca won!! Don't mind me, proud sister here,” she wrote.
Fernandez will
be hoping that a little break will help her recover from recent disappointments
she suffered in the early stages of the 2024 campaign.
In the first
Grand Slam of the year — the Australian Open— the Montreal-born was knocked out
of the competition after losing in the second round to America’s Alycia Parks
in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Then at the Qatar
Open in Doha, her journey came to an end as she lost in the quarterfinal to Elena
Rybakina in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-2. In the recently concluded
Dubai Duty-Free Championship, Fernandez was knocked out after losing in the round
of 32 to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
