Emma Raducanu seems to have pointed towards being fine to play the Australian Open after her recent injury travails which have seen the Brit pull out suddenly from the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Raducanu continued her miserable run of not playing when she withdrew with a back issue. This is despite also adding to her team the former fitness coach of Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka designed to stop these issues from happening.
The former US Open champion who has come under vehement criticism in the past 18 months and since her Grand Slam triumph spoke about wanting to play a lot more than she did in 2024. But in withdrawing from Auckland, it sent the vultures circling once more.
“Tried my best to be ready,” Raducanu said earlier this week. “I love Auckland and the fans here but unfortunately picked up a back niggle and won’t be ready in time.”
“I want to play more than I did this year,” said Raducanu last month. “I think now, with my set-up, I’m in a place where I can continue work on the road. So I don’t necessarily need to come back to continue good physical work.
“I can do it pretty much every day, like microdoses. And I think that’s actually going to be a great addition for me next year, which I’m excited about.
“Also with my tennis, I’m in a pretty good spot. I feel like I just want to see how much I can do, fulfil my potential. I’m curious about what my level can get to. I really want to play more. And I think a big part of that is just staying healthy.”
But footage albeit those questioning why she withdrew from Auckland if she can practice was released by the Australian Open Instagram account earlier on Thursday.
