The WTA 250
Guangzhou Open will be played between October 20 and 26, during the final week of the Asian Swing. The event will be one of the last commitments of the season, and for many, their farewell tournament of 2025, with only one more week of competition remaining—plus the WTA Finals two weeks later.
The Guangzhou International Women's Open will have its 19th edition, an event that has crowned luxury champions, including the legendary World No. 2 Li Na, former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, and former World No. 1 Jelena Jankovic.
The last champion is Olga Danilovic, who won in 2024 by defeating Caroline Dolehide convincingly 6-3, 6-1. However, the Serb—Novak Djokovic's mixed doubles partner at the recent US Open—will not be among the participants unless she obtains a last-minute wildcard. The main draw is currently formed without any former champions.
Eala and Maria lead the field for next tournament
The favorites in terms of ranking will be the veteran Tatjana Maria—champion of the WTA 500 Queen’s Club Championships—and Poland’s Magdalena Frech—a former WTA Top 25 player.
However, there will be special attention on the young Filipina
Alexandra Eala, who can take advantage of a draw free of major stars and will be seeking another deep run in the final part of the year. Eala recently won the Zapopan Open title and holds a notable 10-1 record since the end of the US Open. Guangzhou will be an important opportunity to continue accumulating points in the final stretch of the season.

Predictions
Samuel Gill, Head Editor of TennisUpToDate.com sees two main names involved being in contention.
I see Alexandra Eala being back in form this next week, she has faltered at times this year after big wins but this is a worse field especially given that some of the main names have since withdrawn.
Also see Ajla Tomljanovic having a good week. The Aussie ace has been superb this week and replacing Donna Vekic her good friend in the draw, she will take a big name spot in the draw. A big opportunity awaits one name.
