Chris Evert was a spectacular tennis player in her time but she's very impressed after watching Iga Swiatek win her 4th career grand slam trophy at Roland Garros (French Open).
Iga Swiatek finished off another great week in Paris with a trophy. She lifted her 3rd grand slam trophy in Paris and 4th overall. Chris Evert was there to observe first person and she was just impressed by what she saw. Being a great player herself and seeing many great players up close allows Evert great insight as to what she sees in Swiatek. There is a lot of hunger according to Evert, similar to what she saw in all the great players:
"She’s just hungry. There are champions that win one Slam and that’s enough, but there are players that are really hungry - Monica Seles, Steffi Graf, myself and Martina Navratilova, and I think Iga is the same type of person."
Speaking further about Switek Evert talked about her game and the type of level she produced despite being knocked down twice in the final set:
"I just said she was unbelievable. A break down twice, and the shots she came up with! She said to me, ‘Did you see my serve?’ I was just complimenting her on how she played with her back to the wall, and only champions can play like that when they are down. She hits the ball harder than a man. She can take those mid-court balls and volley them. She can still improve."
That's one of the most important things with Swiatek. She's already a great player but very young with a good chance that she will improve even further in the future. That's trouble for all of the competitors as she will likely contend for trophies in the next decade.
