Simona Halep is seeking damages against the company that produced the nutritional supplement which featured the substance Roxudustat which saw her career turned upside down and could yet see the end of it.
Halep is seeking more than $10million in damages from Quantum Nutrition, this after testing positive at the 2022 US Open for the substance Roxudustat which has now been confirmed as being due to a collagen supplement which was given to her by a member of Patrick Mouratoglou's team.
On the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned substance list, it is known to increase haemoglobin and the production of red blood cells. This in turn builds endurance. The founder of Quantum said to Globe and Mail in October that Halep was seeking a scapegoat and they are 'the fall guy'. She argues that the supplement being supposedly legal and it not harmed her career and caused humiliation.
She should know soon whether or not she will have her ban upheld after her CAS hearing appeal after initially being banned for four years. But she is trying to get some sort of a semblance of victory no matter what when it comes to the case whether in damages or in the best case having her ban rescinded.
“This hearing provided me with the opportunity to present my position and defend my innocence,” she said after the hearing.
“My confidence in the prevalence of the truth remains intact. I look forward to reclaiming my place on the tennis courts.”
