Rafael Nadal has given fans a glimpse into his plans after retirement, revealing he'd like to live a normal life that involves playing soccer with his family and friends.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion had been sidelined with injury since last year's
Australian Open, but recently made his comeback at this year's Brisbane International. However, Nadal would sustain a hip injury during his semifinal match, forcing him to withdraw from the Australian Open and subsequently, the upcoming
Qatar Open.
Nadal expresses desire for a normal life post-retirement
With the former World No.1 undergoing several injury setbacks over the past year, fans have begun to accept the Spaniard may have plans on calling it quits sometime soon. Although Nadal is yet to make any official announcements regarding his retirement, the 37-year old revealed he would like to live a normal life after he hangs up his tennis racket.
"I have never been very scared by injuries. I am more worried about tomorrow," said Nadal in an interview La Sexta. "When I retire, I want to have a normal life and I would like to be able to go play soccer games with my friends tomorrow or with my son. I am a sports person. Not just a professional tennis player, I am an athlete. I like to practice sports, not just watch it.
"Since I was 8 I have been training almost like a professional, it is normal for my body to have 'scars', but I hope that when a little time passes the body will readapt and I can have a healthy life."
