Coco Gauff is through to the round of 16 at the National Bank Open (Rogers Cup) following her opponent's withdrawal due to injury.
The American faced Anastasia Potapova on Court Rogers, and quickly obtained a break to lead 3-0. Potapova appeared fine at the start of the match but suddenly pulled the plug after falling down a double break. With Gauff leading 5-0, the Russian decided she could not continue as she was apparently dealing with an undisclosed injury, granting Gauff passage to the round of 16.
Awaiting Gauff in the next round is Johanna Konta, who upset third seed Elina Svitolina in three sets earlier in the day.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
