The final match of the day between Putintseva and Gauff was a 3-set battle and it was the American who proved better winning 6-1 2-6 6-4.
Gauff stormed into this match in a very strong fashion taking the ball really early and forcing Putintseva to run a lot. The player from Kazakhstan has a shorter stature and it's not something she enjoys doing. She also tried to be aggressive but overhit the ball quite a few times which gave Gauff a fast first set 6-1. The 2nd set saw Gauff play similarly but this around she was making a lot more errors.
Putintseva read the play a lot better and she created trickier angles for her opponent that gave Gauff a lot of trouble. One break and another later one gave Putitnseva the 6-2 2nd set win which created some nerves for Gauff. The American took a toilet break and returned pretty fresh to the court taking an early lead in the set.
Putitnseva once again struggled with her timing being late on many balls and overhitting the wide. Eventually, she did manage to battle back and make it 4-4 but a pivotal game at the scores was lost once again by committing too many mistakes. Gauff was quick around the court and Putitnseva struggled to find holes in her game.
Gauff then held from 0-30 to finish off the match and move on to the 3rd round.
