Teen sensation Cori 'Coco' Gauff spoke about how she lost in the first round of the 2018 Australian Open as a junior and received important advice from Roger Federer.

Ending the 2018 season as number 686 in the WTA Ranking, still a teenage girl made a big move during her 2019 season. She was the youngest player to win the WTA title since 2004 when she triumphed in Linz.
Playing both Wimbledon and US Open during this season helped her to improve her ranking, but Gauff played all of the Grand Slams already as a junior.
Already in 2017 she played the qualifying at the Wimbledon, but she did not succeed. But the same year, she played in the final at the US Open where she lost to Anisimova 6-0 and 6-2. However, the beginning of 2018 was not successful for Gauff.
She lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Cocciaretto 6-2, 2-6 and 2-6. After that, she received an important advice from Roger Federer. Gauff says:
“He just told me to keep going, to keep working hard, and he shared some of his stories back when he was a junior. And then the next tournament I played was French Open [juniors] and I ended up winning it – maybe that had something to do with it but I mean, how could you not listen to the greatest of all time?”
Also Gauff's father Corey Gauff is a very important person in her life as he is her coach at the moment and travels with her everywhere. About his daughter, Corey Gauff said:
“I just always told her, ‘Dream as big as you want, and if it’s a worthy dream, it’s morally right, then I’ll help you try to achieve those dreams’. I always said, ‘You want to be the greatest? That’s a great goal, there’s nothing wrong with that goal’.”
