The reigning Wimbledon champion was ruthless in her attempt to make the semifinals for the second time in three years. Her aggressive game overwhelmed Kontaveit, who was making her first Grand Slam quarterfinal, as Halep ran away with the match 6-1 6-1.
Having not dropped a set the entire tournament, Halep's speed and precision were on full display. The Romanian relentlessly applied pressure to Kontaveit's serve, leading to three breaks in the first set.
Barely half an hour after the match had begun and Halep had taken the first set. It was a case of rinse and repeat as she broke Kontaveit twice to begin the second set, before ending proceedings on her second match point.
Halep had previously admitted she was unfamiliar with the Estonian's game, but had little trouble in controlling the pace of the match. The fourth seed has perhaps looked the most confident out of all the remaining competitors, leaving little doubt that she means business.
She next faces the winner between resurgent Garbine Muguruza and Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
