Emma Raducanu hired Bencic's former coach Sebastian Sachs as her new coach and the move was praised by Germany's head of women's tennis Barbara Rittner.
Raducanu was in the news a lot of during her off-season as she shared many glimpses from her intense workout sessions in the gym which where her focus for the new season. Her hiring of Sachs happened quickly and there wasn't much media talk around it. For now, it's only a trial but she's been praised for it by Rittner as the coach is a great guy:
“Basti is a really down-to-earth nice guy. All the girls liked him a lot. He's got a good eye for footwork and technique altogether. And for his young age, he's already very experienced. He is very demanding on keeping the focus and I think he's a great choice for Emma."
She added that she hopes he gets more time:
"I just hope that he gets a little more time than the other coaches had. And because also I think Torben Beltz [another German coach who began a five-month stint with Raducanu just over a year ago] was doing a good job."
Asked further by the Telegraph what she needs to do, Rittner said:
"Emma just has to focus maybe more on tennis a bit and just stick to one coach."
