American tennis star
Coco Gauff has heaped praise on his
coach Brad Gilbert and called him ‘one of the best tennis minds out there’.
The 19-year-old produced yet another impressive result after
teaming with the coach of the former world number one America’s Andre Agassi as
she defeated the top-ranked WTA player Iga Swiatek for the first time in her
career.
The duo clashed in the semifinal of the Cincinnati Open (Western
& Southern Open where she came out on top with a score of 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.
Gauff was quoted in a report where she heaped praise on her coach,
who according to her has made her more serious about how she approaches the
game.
“Just a lot of wisdom and how to play the points, and just
the mental side of the game,” she said. How to approach these matches in these
big situations. I think he’s one of the best tennis minds out there. I’m sure
you guys all have seen him commentate on ESPN and give his advice.
“He’s just making me be serious, but all enjoying the game
and having a lot of fun, and be really thriving and being excited for those
tough match ups. And just taking every point, being physical every point – and
I think that’s the best advice he’s given me in such a short amount of time.”
Gauff is now set to face Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova
in the final of the competition on Sunday.
