America’s
Jessica Pegula continued her journey in the
US Open
2023 with a hard-fought win.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is currently
underway in New York where players are battling it out to secure the ultimate
prize.
Pegula defeated Ukraine’s
Elina Svitolina in the third round
of the mega-event with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6- on Saturday.
The current world number three started brightly as she secured the first set. While doing that, she won 72 percent of service points. In comparison, her opponent only managed to win 61 percent of points while serving.
In the second set, Svitolina made a grand comeback as she
won 75 percent service points, considerably higher compared to Pegula who
managed to win just 64 percent points while serving.
In the third set, the Buffalo-born returned to her very best
and secured the set as well as the match in a thumping manner.
While doing so, Pegula produced 31 winners in the match. She
also converted three break points.
She will now face fellow American Madison Keys in the round
of 16 clash on Monday.
