America’s young tennis star Coco Gauff has cast doubts about her potential participation in the mixed doubles category in the future.
The 19-year-old participated in three different categories in the US Open but her journey in the mixed doubles came to an end as she and her partner Jack Sock in the first-round encounter against Denis Kudla and Alycia Parks with a score of 6-2, 7-6.
Talking about her experience, Gauff stated that she did not like the mixed doubles category and cast doubts about whether she would participate in any such event in the future.
"In the third, I was just trying to fight for every point. Yeah, that's how I was able to get through that match," said Gauff. "To be honest, the doubles compared to the singles doesn't take that much energy, especially in mixed when you have the guy really doing most of the work.
"Is it something I'm going to do every time in my career? Probably not. I don't know if I like mixed doubles, to be honest, it's not one of my favorite events. I honestly don't know how many more times I'll play this."
Despite that result, Gauff is still very much alive in the other two categories in the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year which is now moving towards the business end as players continue to battle for the ultimate glory.
The Atlanta-born, along with her partner Jessica Pegula, has booked their place in the second round of the doubles category where they will face Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and Russia’s Alexandra Panova on Saturday.
Other than that, in the singles category, Gauff, who is still searching for her first major title, is set to face the former world number one Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the round of 16 clash on Sunday.
