The WTA will showcase some of it's most talented players at the 2025 Japan Open, which is set to run from October 13-19 in Osaka, Japan.
A WTA 250 event, the Japan Open has seen former Grand Sla champions leave the city with the title. Australian tennis star Sam Stosur, who won the US Open in 2011, is a three-time titlist in Osaka, winning the inaugural edition in 2009.
Former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli triumphed in Osaka during the 2011 edition. Hometown star Nao Hibino won the title in 2019, delighting local fans in the process.
Dutch star Suzan Lamens prevailed at last year's edition, defeating Australia's Kimberly Birrell in the final. Lamens will return at this year's event, alongside rising Filipina star Alexandra Eala.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka is slated to compete at the Japan Open as the top seed. The former World No.1 reached the semifinals at the 2025 US Open, losing to eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova in three tight sets.

Japan Open to be broadcast worldwide

Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez has also been announced for the Japan Open, in addition to rising American tennis star Iva Jovic. The teenager won her maiden WTA title in Guadalajara two weeks ago, etching her name as of the youngest winners on tour this season.
Belgian veteran Elise Mertens is the second seed at the Japan Open, and she will be competing alongside Czech star Linda Noskova and 2023 Japan Open champion Ashlynn Kruger.
Fans eager to catch all the action need not worry as the event is broadcast globally. In the USA, the tournament will be shown in full on Tennis Channel. Sky Sports will show the tournament in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, South Tyrol, Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City. While in Australia it is shown on beIN Sports, in New Zealand it is shown on DAZN.
beIN Sports also shows the event in France. Canal+ ordinarily shows the tournaments in Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia but all are out of the reckoning for this tournament as well as Nottingham, Iasi, Sao Paolo, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Jiujiang. Eleven Sports shows the event in Portugal.
