The 2026 WTA ASB Classic is set to take place from January 5-11 with many talented tennis players ready to get their 2026 season started with a bang.
A field packed with quality is set to traverse over to Auckland, New Zealand, with the hope of a positive start to the year as preparations ramp up for the Australian Open, a tournament that a lot of players can be hugely rewarded from.
World number 14 Elina Svitolina is the highest ranked player in the field. After abandoning her 2025 campaign early, she is fresh and ready for the new year. Svitolina made the final in 2024, losing out to Coco Gauff as she targets one step further. She could face another American in the final, in the form of Emma Navarro. She is set to defend the ranking points from an Australian Open quarter-final run last year, so will desperately need a positive run to gain momentum heading into Melbourne.
A brace of young talents will be hoping to continue their impact in the sport. 18-year-old Iva Jovic and 20-year-old Alexandra Eala both picked up their maiden WTA title last year and will be wanting to continue their progress after a breakthrough campaign. Janice Tjen, Magda Linette, Wang Xinyu and Peyton Stearns completed the seeds for the event, with British trio Sonay Kartal, Francesca Jones and Katie Boulter looking for a strong run. Adding to them is Venus Williams, who is set to prolong her tennis career in New Zealand. With ambitions of returning to the Australian Open, the crowds will be out to watch the seven-time Grand Slam champion take to the court.
For tennis fans in the UK, as usual Sky Sports will be showing all the action. Over in America, Williams progress can be monitored through the Tennis Channel, while neighbouring Australia have access through beIN Sports.
