Ukraine’s tennis star
Elina Svitolina has revealed that her
mindset has changed after going through pregnancy.
The 2020 Olympics Bronze medal winner became a parent in October
last year and since then, she has been in pretty decent form on the court.
This year, Svitolina has already won 14 matches out of the
23, having a win percentage of 64.3, including a WTA title triumph in Strasbourg
where she defeated Anna Blinkova in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Talking about her life after becoming a parent, the
28-year-old revealed that she is motivated ‘like never before’.
"I cannot compare it to what it was before the
pregnancy,” she said. “Now is very different. It's like something new in my
game. Also my mindset is very fresh now, I'm really motivated like never
before. Yeah, just happy with where I am right now.”
The Odesa-born further stated that she is now trusting the process,
something which is paying dividends to her.
"I just try to not be so hard on myself when I was not
winning so many matches,” she added. “I knew that I was playing the right way.
Just few points I was not playing aggressive, I was not, you know, taking so
much risk. And now everything is back to good, and I'm feeling that I'm in a
good form right now. Since Strasbourg, I have been striking the ball really well
and feeling really well.”
Svitolina has started brightly in
Wimbledon 2023 where she
has already booked her place in the third round.
In the competition opener, she outclassed the former world
number one Venus Williams in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-3. In the
second round, Svitolina defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens with a score of 6-1,
1-6, 6-1.
She will now face the 2020 Australian Open winner America’s Sofia
Kenin in the round of 32 clash on Friday.
