The former world number one Denmark’s
Caroline Wozniacki
believes that she still has a lot to improve after suffering a defeat in the Cincinnati
Open (Western & Southern Open).
The 33-year-old lost in the round of 32 clash of the
competition to France’s Varvara Gracheva with a score of 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday.
While talking about it after the match, Wozniacki stated that
she believes her timing was not right in the match.
"In general I didn't think I played very well,” she
said. “I think I didn't really find my rhythm. I had nine breakpoints and won
none of them. That's just not good enough when you're playing against players
on this level.
"I thought last week, I thought I was pretty pleased
about where I was. I think this week I don't feel like my timing is exactly
where I want it to be, so I'm just going to go back and work hard.”
Wozniacki further went on to state that she is going to stay
in America in order to prepare for the upcoming US Open 2023 which is set to
begin in less than 15 days’ time.
"I will stay here for a little while and work hard and
just kind of get a bunch of tennis in and put some hours in,” she said. “I
still have about 10 days to prepare for the US Open. There is quite a few
things that I feel like I need to do better.”
Wozniacki, who recently came out of retirement after a break
of more than three years, has an impressive record while playing at the
Flashing Medows as twice she ended up runner-up in the competition.
The first time it was in 2009 when she was defeated by
Belgium’s Kim Clijsters and five years later, she once again ended on the losing
side against America’s Serena Williams.
