Emma Raducanu's
Indian Wells journey finished in the 4th round with a loss to Iga Swiatek and she pointed out to her physical state as the culprit for the loss.
Everybody knows that Raducanu is not fully healthy right now but she fought bravely to make it to the 4th round of the event. Swiatek was simply too strong for Raducanu and the Brit pointed out that the Polish player is actually in far better physical condition right now being fully healthy which she is not:
"Overall I feel like physically she is much further ahead than I am at this moment. I
think I was able to stay competitive at the beginning of the first set,
and then I think the first three games took over 20 minutes. We were having some pretty epic rallies and I think my defence got better.”
Overall, Raducanu is very pleased with the way this week went as she didn't really expect to play so winning three matches and making it to the 4th round gives her confidence:
"It feels good. Gives me confidence. I think especially because of where I was before this tournament when I didn’t think I would even play, to be honest.‘“But
to have played and then won three rounds and beaten two amazing
opponents, I’m very proud of myself. Now it’s just about consistent work
to physically get to where I want to be.’
She also made a bold claim saying that she's nowhere near full health predicting to be one of the best athletes on Tour in the future:
"Physically I feel like that’s going to be one of my biggest assets.
My team has spoken about it. I think that I’m going to be one of the
best athletes on the tour and that’s going to be a big part of my game. I would say there is a very long way to go, but I’m definitely starting the right work now.”
