Mirra Andreeva as a 16-year-old has seen the spotlight shone onto her and similar to Coco Gauff who she has spoken of her admiration for, comparisons with compatriots have followed.
Andreeva has seen
Maria Sharapova mooted and her rise being similar and she was asked what she would ask the former World Number One if she managed to meet her.
"I would ask Maria what her feeling was like when she won her first Grand Slam at 17. Then I would want to know other things, but the first thing would be to know what she felt after she won Wimbledon in 2004," she said to Claytenis.
But despite that, she does not want comparisons with her compatriot and is set to follow her own path.
This is a point she previously also made at Wimbledon with her run to the latter stages seeing the media whipping up hype surrounding her and comparisons were set not only to Sharapova, but also Kournikova and even Emma Raducanu.
"People may say, perhaps, that I’m following her path and doing the same as her, but I don’t focus on that. I have my own career, my own life. I will only do my best to create a great career."
But while she is getting used to the popularity that tennis creates, she is still not used to saying no to her fans.
"Sometimes it’s a little uncomfortable. I get a lot of people after games asking me for a picture. I don’t want to say no because they support me and are cheering me on. I couldn’t say no and walk away, but it’s true that I can’t stay too long with people because I need to rest and do my own thing."
