French No. 1 Lois Boisson gave an interview in which she discussed her recovery from the injury sustained during the Asian swing and shared her expectations for the 2026 season. The 22-year-old player hopes to keep taking steps forward in her career and advance further in the rankings, which see her sitting as world No. 36 at the end of 2025.
It was a dream season for Boisson, who went from being an unknown to playing in her first Grand Slam semifinals back at Roland Garros. The local favorite reached the semifinals in her main draw debut after receiving a wildcard from the organization, becoming the first wildcard player in the Open Era to achieve this feat.
Boisson was barely positioned at No. 361 after a couple of years marked by injuries. In her debut at the tournament, Boisson overcame 24th seed Elise Mertens and began an unthinkable path in Paris to reach the semifinals. Along the way, she defeated rivals such as Jessica Pegula (3rd) and Mirra Andreeva (6th), eventually falling in the semifinals to the champion, Coco Gauff.
The Frenchwoman climbed almost 300 spots to No. 65, and by adding new victories throughout the year, managed to finish the season in the top 40. This came after also winning her first WTA title at the Hamburg European Open—also on clay—defeating Anna Bondar of Hungary in the final.

Boisson confident after breakthrough season

At the close of the year, her last tournament was the China Open, where she reached the third round after defeating 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova, but was forced to retire in the middle of her duel against Emma Navarro at the end of September. After that, Boisson withdrew from the rest of the season's tournaments and called an end to her year.
"I have recovered well from that injury in Asia," commented the 22-year-old player to Ubitennis. "First, I took a few days off. Then, I started the preseason. And there, I just had to get a small PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection in my knee to relieve the pain a little, but everything is going very well. I should be able to continue the preseason early next week in Barcelona. I am really looking forward to 2026 arriving! We are going to keep preparing well and start the season on the right foot. We have a month left here and then we go over there."
It will be the first time Boisson travels to the Australian swing, where she will start the year at the United Cup, marking her debut alongside Shanghai Masters 2025 finalist Arthur Rinderknech. "It will be my first time there, in 2026. I'm really looking forward to it because I think I'm going to love the country. And it will be the first Grand Slam of the year, so it's fantastic."
It will be the first time Boisson represents the French national team in the senior category, and she was delighted to join an inspired Rinderknech to seek a good performance in the tournament. "It will be my first time competing in the adult category, so it's fantastic to start like this. I think we have a good team with Arthur; we are going to try to do our best and go as far as possible."
France will face Switzerland and Italy in the group stage in Perth, where Boisson will have to challenge difficult rivals like world No. 11 Belinda Bencic and No. 8 Jasmine Paolini, two players with extensive experience both at the top level of the Tour and representing their countries. Rinderknech, for his part, will face Stan Wawrinka and Flavio Cobolli as they look to advance from the group stage, which will kick off on January 3rd.
