"I want to make sure Ukraine is still in the news": Svitolina aims to continue to draw attention on Ukraine plight

Elina Svitolina is back to playing tennis but her priority is still her country with the former top 10 player keen to keep her country in the news at all times.

Svitolina had a very tricky year last year enduring her country being invaded by another one. It came during a time when she was pregnant making the whole experience even more stressful. She's back to tennis now slowly building up her form but Ukraine is still something she thinks about every day.

It's only natural as it's her home, she has family there and went there as the war still raged. Speaking to the WTA Website, Svitolina admitted that she wants to keep talking about the war to shine a light on it:

"In every possible way, I want to make sure Ukraine is still in the news. Playing tournaments, trying to organize events on the side, connecting with people around the events -- that's really important. The war continues, so we need to continue helping people."

On her tennis, Svitolina said:

"Constant adjustment. It can be windy, it can be rainy, you might be waiting for six or seven hours. But you have to be ready for anything that comes your way."
