Naomi Osaka was in New York last night watching a boxing match at the Barclays Center and she experienced mass panic due to a potential shooting in the area.
The situation happened while she was inside the center with large groups of people swarming inside the arena and yelling about a potential shooting going on otuside. According to security reports from the center a man was spotted carrying a weapon outside of the center creating a mass panic in the area. The country is still recovering from a tragic elementary shooting that left 22 people dead a few days ago.
She took to Twitter to explain:
"I was just in the Barclays center and suddenly I heard shouting and saw people running, then we were being yelled at that there was an active shooter and we had to huddle in a room and close the doors, I was so fucking petrified man. I really hope everyone made it out safely, since I’m tweeting this we made it out ok."
Reports after the event confirmed that there was no active shooting in the area nor a person carrying a weapon. Some loud noises tricked several people who believed they were shots fired. That created mass hysteria and a stampede which left 10 people injured.
