OLBG, a sports betting community, has published a list of the most searched female athletes of the year, with three tennis players on the podium: Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, and Emma Raducanu.
WTA's top players hold a prominent place in women's sports, with several of them ranking high in the total number of online searches, as considered by OLBG between September 2022 and August 2023.
The top-ranking athlete on this list is Iga Swiatek, with over 15 million searches. Swiatek held the world No. 1 spot on the WTA Ranking during the period under consideration, which she lost in early September this year to Aryna Sabalenka.
It's worth noting that despite her significant lead over other female athletes, Iga Swiatek experienced a substantial decrease in searches compared to the same period of the previous year, with a -55% change.
In second place is US Open champion Coco Gauff, who significantly increased her popularity with over 10 million searches, representing a growth of over 500% compared to the previous year. Gauff is also the third athlete who receives the most positive reactions to articles about her, with 86% of reactions being positive.
The third position goes to Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, who has been sidelined throughout the year due to recurring injuries that required surgery. Nevertheless, Raducanu remains one of the most popular athletes in the world, with 9.6 million searches. Similar to Swiatek, the British player also experienced a significant decrease compared to the previous year, with a -63% change.
Other tennis players who made the ranking include #9 Naomi Osaka (5.4 million), #10 Jessica Pegula (4.3 million), and #11 Leylah Fernandez (3.1 million). Canadian tennis player Fernandez stands out as the second athlete who receives the most love reactions in response to articles about her, with 87% of reactions being positive.
