World number one
Aryna Sabalenka has refused to give any
advice to Russia’s young tennis star
Mirra Andreeva. The two players faced off
in the semifinal of the ongoing
Brisbane International where the Belarusian star
came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
After the match, Sabalenka spoke on the court, where the presenter asked her what advice she could give to the 17-year-old, who is already regarded as the one for the future. In response to that, the reigning world
number one refused the offer and advised the youngster to keep doing ‘her thing’
“I’ll give my advice to her when I retire,” said Sabalenka
said. “Right now I’ll just let her do her thing. She’s doing the right things. She
has a great team around her, family around her, amazing coach. Couldn’t
recommend her anyone better than her (Conchita Martinez). She’s on the right
path and definitely the future of tennis. She’s gonna be there very soon.”
Despite the result on Saturday, Andreeva will be extremely happy with her performance in the Brisbane International as not only did she play in the semifinal in the singles category, but she also managed to lift the doubles title. She and her partner Diana Shnaider defeated Australia’s Priscilla
Hon and Anna Kalinskaya in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-5.
Andreeva will now move to Adelaide, where she will take part in an event just before the Australian Open. She will face Linda Noskova in the opening round of
the competition. It will be the fourth meeting between the two. In the previous
three meetings, Andreeva has a slight edge as she won twice and suffered
just a defeat. The two met in the third round of the Brisbane International as
well where Andreeva came out on top in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
