World number three
Aryna Sabalenka believes that her recent
win against the current world number one
Iga Swiatek in the Cincinnati Open
will give her a huge boost ahead of the
US Open. The fourth and final Grand
Slam of the year will begin from August 26 where players from all over the world
will showcase their talent to secure the ultimate prize.
Sabalenka is currently taking part in the Cincinnati Open, where she booked her place in the final of the competition after beating
Swiatek in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. It was only her fourth win
in 12 meetings against the current world number one player in professional
tennis. Talking after the match, Sabalenka stated that, in her opinion, the win
would give her a lot of confidence going into the US Open. She also stated that
she is not looking to live in the past; instead, she focuses on preparing for
what’s coming next.
“This definitely gave me a lot of confidence going to the US
Open,” she said. “But it’s already in the past.. if I’m gonna focus on this win, I’m gonna be
staying in the past. I’m really happy with the win. It was a brilliant
performance from me. But I just want to focus on staying in the moment and
bringing my best tennis every time I’m on court. Trying to stay calm,
confident, & aggressive on court.”
Sabalenka had an impressive US Open last year, where she
finished as the runner-up after losing in the final to America’s young tennis
sensation Coco Gauff with a score of 2–6, 6–3, 6–2. In Cincinnati, the Belarus
tennis star will face America’s Jessica Pegula in the final on Monday. The
30-year-old defeated Spain’s Paula Badosa in the semifinal on Sunday with a
score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
