When the War in Ukraine broke out it became a hot topic in tennis however, like every else, it's barely even mentioned anymore.
The War in Ukraine was a hot topic in tennis once it started but since then the interest has severely dwindled. It's somewhat normal as that's how it usually goes but it's something that Swiatek would like to see changed. Very quickly focus shifted the Wimbledon and their decision instead of what was really important and to turn back attention to that Swiatek did something.
A charity match was held in Krakow that raised 422.000 euros for the victims of the War. Speaking after the match, Swiatek said:
“I have noticed that, in the beginning, the tennis world’s
interest in what has been going on in Ukraine was very strong. Many
female tennis players donned ribbons in the colors of that country.
However, with the passage of time, this changed and ribbons disappeared
after a couple of matches. Many players refuse to comment on the topic of war. I respect that because everyone does what they deem appropriate.”
