Bianca Andreescu will not play at the 2023 US Open after withdrawing from the tournament on the eve of the start of Flushing Meadows on Monday.
The 2019 champion has shown glimmers as of late that her form from that season would return, but the 23-year-old was diagnosed with a small stress fracture after Toronto.
She didn't play Cincinnati feeling the pain back in her loss to Marta Kostyuk in Washington. It has been an injury-laden time for Andreescu since her breakout run in 2019.
Earlier this year, she made a miraculous recovery after a potential season-ending injury in Miami and made Roland Garros from there. Showing great resolve to respond, she couldn't do it in time for the US Open.
She made it to New York meaning it was likely a late decision with the Canadian doing a book signing. But unfortunately she won't make her way onto the court this year.
"My main focus will be on giving my back the rest it needs," Andreescu wrote in an Aug. 12 social media post. "I'll be taking things day by day and aiming to return to the court as soon as I can and stay optimistic for US Open. Your support means the world to me.”
