I am glad Genie deleted her tweet. It is not a fair thing to attack people who have been totally cleared by the Tribunal.
Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard received some backlash for her recent comments after her opening-round win at the 2023 Madrid Open, and renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou was among those not too pleased with the Canadian.
Bouchard defeated Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska to advance to the second round, and subsequently took to social media to make her thoughts known.
"There's something about playing dopers in Madrid," she wrote on Twitter.
This was a sly dig at players who have tested positive for doping, including Yastremska and the retired Maria Sharapova, whom Bouchard defeated at the same event in 2017.
Mouratoglou, whose mentee Simona Halep is being investigated for doping, did not take too kindly to the now-deleted tweet and stated it was "unfair" to attack those who have been cleared of wrongdoing.
"I am glad Genie deleted her tweet. It is not a fair thing to attack people who have been totally cleared by the Tribunal,” he wrote on Twitter.
