Iga Swiatek has now confirmed to media that she should be good to go for
Roland Garros after retiring due to thigh pain against Rybakina at the Rome Open.
Swiatek was playing the tiebreak of the second set against Rybakina in Rome when she experienced pain in her leg. She would lose that tiebreak 3-7 and then take a medical timeout which saw her return with a strapped leg. Play continued for four more games as Swiatek tried to keep playing but ultimately she retired.
After a brief update today where she confirmed that she'll fly to Paris, the Polish player provided some more comments to the media. She explained what happened:
“I felt pain in my
right thigh. It was pretty sudden. At the beginning I didn’t really
know if it was serious or not. We did an examination
with the physio afterwards. It shouldn’t be anything serious, so I’m
pretty positive that I’ll be back soon.”
Roland Garros is pretty close so Swiatek will be looking to get back quickly. A 3rd French Open title might be on the cards but she'll need to rest up a bit:
“To be ready for
Roland Garros I need to recover right now. I’m going to take couple of
days off. … Since Stuttgart I wasn’t really able to recover with that
tight schedule that we have on WTA."
