"It's just important to be happy, to be open" - Kasatkina on girlfriend being present with her at WTA Finals

Daria Kasatkina did not arrive alone in Texas, as she brought her girlfriend with her after revealing her relationship status recently.

The Russian player hinted at being bisexual in the past however she came out as gay this year underlining the importance of being true to yourself and open about it. She struck a similar tone when she discussed the presence of her girlfriend at the event:

"Being happy outside of the court always helps you to be better on the court. I remember in 2019, I was not happy outside of the court, and obviously, I couldn't show anything on the court. I wasn't enjoying anything, so these two things combined."

Her happiness in her private life translated to her tennis level as she played the best year of her career and she explained that it's important to be happy because then you can enjoy life and everything gets easier:

"It's just important to be happy, to be open. To be yourself is the most important and this is what happened to me. I'm really happy with how it goes, with the way everything is going. I'm just happy this way and blessed. Thanks to the people who support me and who were always with me."
