Jasmine Paolini is through to the final of the 2024
French Open after a truly flawless display against
Mirra Andreeva with the Italian rising to the occasion in a a match where for many, the 17-year-old was the favourite.
But Paolini proved why she is a top 15 seed and now a top 10 player at least as of next week. She sealed a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Russian prodigy who no doubt will see her time come again. But for Paolini, she now faces the biggest test of all. She faces off against Iga Swiatek in the final at
Roland Garros on Saturday.
Swiatek has been imperious as ever on the clay courts of Paris and saw off Coco Gauff earlier today to seal her final spot. She will be a huge favourite while it will be up to Paolini as she did against Rybakina and Andreeva to upset the odds.
It will be an uphill battle but given her performance today, it certainly isn't out of the realms that she will certainly push the World No.1 in the showpiece on Saturday. Or it could simply be a bridge too far and an early loss for the Italian. But she is now a Grand Slam finalist and continues her truly epic year.
Exacting revenge on Andreeva who defeated her last month in Madrid, it was a comprehensive win with a 1 hour 13 minute. She never trailed throughout the contest with the match only even at 1-1 during the opening set. She broke Andreeva's serve four times and saved all six break points she faced. True dominance from the Italian.
Winner of Dubai earlier in the season, she could end up with the biggest title of her career over the weekend again and is one step closer to doing just that.
