“Just a tired mom with a full heart”: Serena Williams gives an 'unfiltered' look at life with her daughters

Serena Williams has spent most of her life in the spotlight, but her latest Instagram post showed a much quieter side of the 23-time Grand Slam champion. Just a few months after making her unexpected return to professional tennis, Williams shared a candid family moment with her two daughters, Olympia and Adira, and described herself in the simplest possible terms: a tired mom with a full heart.

The post comes after a remarkable few months for Williams, who returned to competitive tennis in June following almost four years away from the sport. What started with doubles at Queen’s Club quickly turned into a singles comeback at Wimbledon, before she later returned to the US Open and reunited with sister Venus Williams on court.

For someone who spent more than two decades living around tennis, tournaments and Grand Slam pressure, 2026 has offered Williams a very different experience of the sport. She has been back on some of the biggest courts in the world, but she has also been doing it as a mother of two, with Olympia and Adira now able to experience a part of her life that previously belonged almost entirely to Serena.

Her latest post, however, had nothing to do with tennis. Instead, it captured one of those ordinary family moments that can easily get lost behind the scale of everything Williams has achieved on court.

Williams recently turned 45, just weeks after her latest appearance on Tour at the US Open. She has not given a clear indication of whether that tournament marked the end of this unexpected comeback or whether fans could see her compete again, leaving the next chapter of her tennis career open.

Williams shared several photos with her daughters, offering a glimpse of herself away from the cameras and competition. There was no discussion of her comeback or another tournament. Just Serena with her children.

“Unfiltered. Raw. Just a tired mom with a full heart holding her whole world….. Ready for whatever comes next," Williams captioned on Instagram.

There is something notably different about seeing Williams describe herself this way after watching her return to professional tennis. For years, she was defined by what happened on court — the Grand Slam titles, the records, the comebacks and the relentless pursuit of another victory. Now, motherhood is just as much a part of the picture.

Olympia, born in 2017, grew up watching her mother compete, including through the final years of Williams' career before her 2022 US Open farewell. Adira, meanwhile, was born in 2023, during Williams' time away from professional tennis. Her comeback this year has allowed both girls to see Serena back in the environment that shaped so much of her life.

And while Serena's own tennis future remains uncertain, the Williams family will still have a presence on the WTA Tour. Venus has been awarded singles and doubles wild cards for the Guangzhou Open, scheduled for October 26 to November 1, marking her first appearance in Asia since 2019. Serena, meanwhile, has not announced another tournament following her US Open return.
