Karolina Pliskova lost to Katie Boulter at Wimbledon but she avenged that in San Jose with a comeback win 1-6 7-6(5) 6-3.
Karolina Pliskova and Katie Boulter played two amazing matches on grass this year. Both of those matches were won by Boulter but now, on hard courts, it was Pliskova's time. Well, not initially. The British player jumped on Pliskova early in this match with high intensity. The Czech player was unable to handle it and she dropped the opening set 1-6.
It seemed like Boulter was on her way to a 3rd win over Pliskova in the last couple of weeks but Pliskova responded furiously in the 2nd set with a double break lead early. First, it was 2-0, then it was 4-0, and then 5-1.
And then Pliskova lost four games in a row to get Boulter back into the match. She failed to serve out the set twice. To add to the madness and chaos, Pliskova broke Boulter once more for the 6-5 lead but failed to serve out the set for the 3rd time. We went into the tiebreak and Pliskova as able to turn around a 3-4 deficit into a 7-5 win.
The final set was an interesting one. At the start, we saw the players' trade breaks. After that, Pliskova established order for the most part breaking Boulter once more and cruising to a 6-3 finish. Very messy but a win nonetheless.
