Russian player Kudermetova confirmed she will be able to play at Wimbledon later this year if she removes one of the sponsorships on her playing kit.
Kudermetova became news a few days ago when fans spotted a logo of a company on her kit which is actively involved in the situation in Ukraine. Tatneft is an oil company that is supplying the Russian army during the war and it is also a company which has been sanctioned by the EU. The kit doesn't break any rules for the Madrid Open but it would Wimbledon.
She was asked about it and she said:
"For
the moment, I don't break a rule. For
Wimbledon, yes, I know we are not allowed to wear badges from our
country. I agree with that, but for the moment I can wear that badge. If I would like to play Wimbledon, I need to take the badge off.
She also confirmed that she has no affilation with her former tennis club at the moment:
"When I was young, I was practising there. It was my tennis club - when I was in Moscow I practised there, but for the moment I am not practising there. I don't have a contract with them, I don't have a salary from them - for the moment we are separate."
