Kvitova to donate part of Bad Homburg prize money to relief efforts in Czech Republic

Petra Kvitova failed to reach the final at the Bad Homburg Open losing to Kerber in the semifinals but she announced she will donate part of the prize money she won.

The reason behind Kvitova's donation is fairly simple, the Czech Republic was hit by a very strong Tornado one day ago which caused havoc in the south of the country. The event is a fairly rare event in Europe especially strong ones like the one that happened on Thursday.

Kvitova said:

"It’s a disaster and it’s pretty close to my parents and my family where I grew up. I’m really sorry. I was very sad it happened in the Czech Republic. Having a tornado, we probably never had it before. It was really surprising. I hope the people will be ok."

The Czech player almost reached the final as she served for the match at 6-5 in the third set but lost her serve in that game ultimately collapsing in the tiebreak 3-7. She will now turn her attention to Wimbledon where she enjoys playing.
