Leylah Fernandez passed the
Katerina Siniakova test rather well 6-3 6-2 proving her good form at this year's
Roland Garros.
Leylah Fernandez and her clay game is a work in progress but the young Canadian is showing her huge progress on the surface this year. There have been several matches where she played rather well and today, against a tricky opponent, she shined bright. Doing tremendous damage with her forehand Fernandez never lost control of the match.
She took a 4-2 lead and gave it right back only to break her opponent once more for the 5-3 lead. Then she closed it out with 6-3. Siniakova tried several things but nothing really worked for her because she could not outhit her opponent from the baseline.
Fernandez was super solid with her forehand and attacked at every opportunity. She jumped out to a double break in the 2nd set 3-0 became a 5-1 lead not long after that. Siniakova tried to steal it away jumping out to a 40-15 lead in that game but Fernandez held her nerve and close out the match. A solid effort from the Canadian hitting 19 winners and 10 unforced errors.
