Leylah Fernandez did really well to avoid a 3rd set against native player Emma Navarro who played really well for a while but couldn't keep up the needed level.

Navarro has a very interesting background as a daughter of a billionaire businessman who owns the famous WTA event in Charleston. She grew up on those courts and now made her way to the professionals where she played fairly decently against Fernandez. The first set was a dominant one from the Canadian who dropped only two games.

Due to the windy conditions, both players struggled on the serve committing a lot of double faults. Luckily the rallies went heavily towards Fernandez's side which negated the six double faults. The start of the second set saw Navarro take over for a while taking a 3-0 lead. After a long battle at 3-1, Fernandez pulled back the break which turned the momentum.

She even took a 4-3 lead but dropped her serve after some bad mistakes to make it 4-4. Navarro still didn't withstand heavy pressure from Fernandez who took a 5-4 lead and finished it off 6-4. A bit bumpy but overall very solid.
