Patrick
Mouratoglou recently weighed in on the debate regarding the GOAT (Greatest of
All Time) in women's tennis. While many consider the 24-times Grand Slam
champion Margaret Court as the best female tennis player of all time, the coach
of
Serena Williams emphasized that the Australian achieved her records before
the Open Era.
The French
coach responded on social media to a fan who asked whether Court's records make
her the best of all time. According to Mouratoglou, the true GOAT is the
23-times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. He stated, "No, because
Margaret Court's record was established before the Open Era when tennis was not
a professional sport. Cannot compare. Serena is the Goat of Women's tennis,"
Patrick Mouratoglou wrote on his X account (former Twitter).
Margaret
Court's Records:
The former
Australian tennis player secured an unparalleled legacy in the sport, winning
24 Grand Slam titles between 1960 and 1975. This achievement stands as the
highest record in the history of women's tennis and was recently equaled by
Serbian player Novak Djokovic on the men's side. Court's dominance wasn't
limited to singles, as she also claimed 21 major titles in mixed doubles and an
additional 19 in women's doubles, amassing an extraordinary total of 64 major
championships. This surpasses the record held by Martina Navratilova, who
boasts 59 major titles across all disciplines.
Court's
on-court prowess is underscored by her remarkable win-loss record of 1,180 –
107, giving her the best winning percentage in the history of the sport at 92
percent. Beyond her singles accomplishments, Court stands as one of only three
tennis players to achieve the career Grand Slam in two categories. Joining the
ranks of Navratilova and Serena Williams, Court accomplished this feat in both
women's doubles and mixed doubles, mirroring Navratilova's achievements in
those categories.
