Maria Sakkari comes back to win against Anhelina Kalinina in Indian Wells

Maria Sakkari didn't expect an easy win against Anhelina Kalinina but she probably didn't expect it to be this complicated as she had to fight back after dropping the first set but she did it 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Sakkari played well in Indian Wells last year and it's generally a type of court that should favour her but early on it benefitted Kalinina more. There was quite a bit of battling on most rallies but Kalinina was simply a bit sharper than Sakkari who was too erratic at times. The Ukranian also used her chance while Sakkari didn't use hers and that was the difference in the first set.

The second set was played much better by Sakkari. She only needed to fall behind a break once more with the Ukranian failing to hold on to a 2-1 lead. That break was actually the last game she won in that entire set as Sakkari went on a 5-0 run to snatch away the second set which was impressive to see.

The match reset nicely in the final set as neither was able to create much of an advantage early. They traded breaks early with the score being 2-2 and after that, we saw them trade a few games. Sakkari looked more sure in the way she was playing and it eventually proved true as Kalinina allowed Sakkari a couple of chances and she finally converted the 3rd match point to win the match.
